The Station on Bree offers a little bit of London in the heart of Cape Town. u|Chief attended the Summer Menu Media Launch and gave the menu creators two thumbs up (and a couple of high-fives).
Superbly located and easy to access at the top of Cape Town, The Station on Bree offers an array of seating to match your mood, the weather or the atmosphere inside The Station. The outside seating keeps you in touch with Cape Town, but enter past the buff Beefeater and it’s England, Their England all the way. The decor touches are fabulous – at times whimsical, at times classy, but throughout comfortable and relaxing – and there are plenty of seating, standing and dancing options on the three levels inside.
The new menu has been superbly crafted and, based on what was served on launch night, will appeal to fussy locals as well as discerning travellers. The venue is also beautifully cosmopolitan, and attracts diners, drinkers and revellers from 18 to topping 80. A careful negotiation down the industrial staircase takes you into a downstairs dancing den that will have older patrons expecting to spot the youthful quartet of John, Paul, George and Ringo.
The live entertainment on Thursdays is terrific and incredibly vibey, yet it doesn’t overpower conversations. To me, the allure of such entertainment hotspots is when the patrons, the waitrons and the entertainers all seem to be having as much as one another.
